Solutions in Perception Challenge

Perception is the key enabler for more flexible robotics. The goal of this series of competitions is to

  1. Establish which perception problems have effective solutions
  2. Expand the list of solved problems

Doing the above will identify the technology readiness levels of perception systems for consumer and industrial applications AND accelerate the development of next-generation perception algorithms by focusing efforts on the adjacent boundary of unsolved problems.

The contest organizers, Willow Garage invites you to enter the challenge and help advance robotics. Prize money will be awarded exponentially higher as winning contestants get closer to perfect performance.

The current challenge is to recognize the ID and pose of rigid non-shiny, non-transparent textured and non-textured objects. These include, but are not limited to, consumer goods, auto parts, and geometric objects. This challenge will be held at 2012 International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA.
